I Love Venice Biennale and Venice Biennale Loves Me

Giardini, the 52nd Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy

People go to Venice Biennale to see art, to meet people, to seek opportunities, to go to parties. But I went to Venice Biennale to be a dog. I put on my tagged collar. I put on my white suit, with a text stitched on the back: I Love Venice Biennale and Venice Biennale Loves Me. On 7 June, I walked on hands and knees from my hotel to the Giardini; up bridges, down bridges, through narrow streets and along the water front. On 8 June, I walked on hands and knees inside the Giardini, circling the entire grounds 4 times.

  1. The entire character of being an artist all in one project: madness, craziness, sadness, happiness, stupidity, humor, commitment, crowdedness, loneliness.
  2. A companionship between the art event and the artist, just like between the owner and the dog.
  3. Context: Joseph Beuys' I Love America and America Loves Me; Diogenes the Dog at Venice Biennale.
  4. Sometimes artists are stink.
  5. An endurance thing.
  6. No talking.
